Why am I running: I am running for State Representative for District 21, because I believe I can be a better voice for my family, friends, and community – I want to make sure your voice is heard. My top priorities are Judicial Reform, Term Limits, and increased Transparency and Accountability. We have a broken, expensive, and biased judicial system that isn’t focused on providing fair justice anymore. We need Term Limits to ensure our elected officials do not become complacent, and to better avoid corruption. Hoosiers deserve better Transparency and Accountability from our elected officials, I will work hard every day to put my fellow Hoosiers first as your next State Representative for District 21. One thing every voter should know about me is that I am just like you, I have been a single parent who has struggled paycheck to paycheck just paying bills. I will use my life experiences to fight for lower taxes, less government intrusion, and fiscal responsibility through budgets with less wasteful spending.
First key message: Judicial and Child Protection Services are long overdue for reform and implementation of new and better policies, procedures, and oversight. Our judicial system has become too expensive, lacks fair and appropriate justice, discourages and punishes Pro Se litigants, and many judges sit on the bench for far too long becoming complacent and often corrupt. The Child Protection Services (CPS) agency is overwhelmingly burdened with staff shortages, failures to comply with policy and procedure, incompetent training, and poor supervision. The Judicial system and CPS can both benefit or negatively impact every Hoosier depending on how well they are managed, structured, and governed to ensure they become and remain compliant with public law.
Second key message: One of the most important priorities when I become a State Representative is to get Term Limits for every elected office throughout the State. Term limits ensure that our elected officials stay focused on their job and do not become lazy. Term limits are the best deterrent of corruption and support fresh ideas and solutions with each change of office. Public Service was never meant to be a get rich career. Career politicians have proven they accomplish very little the longer they stay in office. Often greed, political relationships and aspirations become the driving force of an elected official’s motives rather than their oath to represent the Hoosiers who elected them.
Third key message: Hoosiers deserve Transparency and Accountability from our elected officials, and I plan to ensure I implement actions to stay connected and accessible to the District and any and every Hoosier who would like their voice heard. I will be providing weekly email updates to anyone who signs up, I plan to make weekly session update videos available, and I will be available as much as possible to schedule community meetings, phones calls so that I can answer your questions and hear your concerns. I will work hard every day to put my fellow Hoosiers first as your next State Representative for District 21.
What areas of public policy am I personally passionate about: Term Limits, Judicial Reform, Youth and Child Services, Housing, Healthcare, and Education.
What characteristics or principles are most important to me: Honesty, Integrity, Commitment, and Compassion. No human is perfect, we all make mistakes in our lives. But it is how we handle these situations that defines your character. If you can be honest about things and own your choices so that you can learn from them and use them to become a better YOU – the best version of YOU that you can be – that is all we can ever ask for. Something every voter should know about me is that I am just like you, I have struggled and I will use my life experiences, both good and bad, to fight for every Hoosier to have the best future we can create. I want to represent The People with honesty, integrity, compassion, and with a commitment to listen and be The People’s voice rather than just my own.
What do I believe are the core responsibilities for an elected official: First and foremost I must be responsible, accountable, and transparent to the voters, being an elected official is to be an employee of The People and for The People. I am responsible to be the voice of The People and be sure that I work tirelessly to ensure their voice is heard. I am responsible for promoting law and policy that protects the freedoms and safety of every Hoosier.
To understand my political philosophy: I am driven to public service from a desire and compassion to achieve a future that we can be proud to pass on to the next generation. I am influenced by a variety of political and common everyday people that I meet each day. Politically I was first impacted by Jackie Walorski, not by all of her political achievements, but by who she was and what she stood for. Jackie had love, love of Christ and her faith; she also truly cared about everyone she met, even if you didn’t much care for her politically. I admire her compassion, desire to listen, and her fight for what she believed in. Other political influences are JFK, RFK, Regan, and Trump. We may never have a “perfect politician” but we can learn from the best parts of each and aspire to be better. That is my political philosophy, “Learn, Grow, and do Better.”
Views on financial transparency and government accountability: I have been fighting for financial transparency and government accountability for several years. Our elected officials are OUR employees, they have forgotten that. The money they spend and pay themselves with is OUR money, OUR tax dollars. We have a right and they have an obligation to be transparent and accountable for every dollar!
My views on a state ballot initiative process: I would support a state ballot initiative process 100%. Allowing Hoosiers to participate in the processes of our government is not only beneficial but I believe it is vital and essential to a fair, balanced, and just government.
Why do I believe I would make a successful State Representative: I am a fighter for justice and believe we can better govern our State by remembering as elected officials we are employees of The People for The People. I strive to be informed and share information, I seek resources and do research rather than jumping to conclusions. I am willing to respect my fellow elected officials regardless of political party affiliation and personal differences in order to work together for ALL Hoosiers. I truly want to represent the voices of The People, and I will not rest if I know there is an opportunity to ensure YOUR voice is heard in Indy. I would like to be remembered as a public servant who listened, sought justice, and worked hard for all Hoosiers.
What is my campaign slogan: “Vote for A New Voice”
Being a single parent is a tough job, a very rewarding blessing, but tough sometimes. Raising 2 daughters on one income wasn’t always easy, but the experience gives me a unique insight that many of our current elected officials do not have. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon or come from the rich side of the tracks. I am just like most Hoosiers, I have had to work hard most of my life for the things I want, I have experienced being laid off, struggling to pay bills, trying to find a trustworthy babysitter (that is affordable), and learning to be patient as I work through difficult situations. I have always tried to see the positive side of things, tried to remain upbeat and confident, sometimes more successfully than others. Through it all I found that we have people in our lives, in our communities, that go through similar circumstances and that if we support and help each other it lessens the burden. So, my struggles turned out to be life lessons, ones that I value and cherish because they made me who I am today.
